Oct. 29-Nov. 2
All through this week we have been dressing up and doing different things for Red Ribbon Week. we made Red Ribbon bracelets and made a card for Ethan.
We wrote a monster story and drew a picture of our monster. We named them as well. Ask us about our monster stories and monsters.
In math, we took a super hard benchmark. Some of us nailed it!! We reviewed the test, so we could see why we missed the ones we did. We also learned about number lines. we planned number line battleship on the computer.
We have also been studying about the Constitution.
We had a great time at our Fall Party. Thank you for helping at the party and for all the fun games.

We have been reading Muggie Maggie this week. It's about a girl who doesn't want to learn cursive. We have started cursive and most of us like it.
We have been learning how to subtract using a number line. One day this week, we gave each other subtraction problems to solve by using a number line. We used white boards and markers to practice this.
In language, we've been learning about subjects and predicates. A subject is the noun in the sentence, and the predicate is the verb in the sentence. We did an activity where we wrote down a subject and then passed it to our neighbor, so they could write the predicate.
The class has been learning about the three states and physical properties of matter. We pretended we were the atoms in solids, liquids, and gases. In a solid, the atoms are really close together, they can barely move. In liquids, the atoms are able to slide by each other. In gases, they bounce around until they hit something that makes them go in another direction.
On Tuesday, Coach Rogers brought a Hornworm from his garden. It was eating everything in his garden. He brought it to school and displayed it in the fifth grade hall, so we could all see it. He is green, very chubby, and will soon turn into a moth.
Our book buddies are kindergarteners in Mrs. Spradley's class. We go visit them every Friday and do some kind of activity with them.
We need to bring a pumpkin by October 29th.

Fast Fun Run Week
This week has been fast fun week. We began learning cursive this week. We like it, it feels good, and makes us feel like an adult!
We started reading a chapter book called Ramona Quimby, Age 8. So far, it has been a good book.
We've been learning about common and proper nouns. Proper nouns always have a capital letter at the beginning, and common nouns don't. Nouns are a person, place, thing, or idea.
In art this week we finished drawing our swans.
On Thursday, we all participated in the Apex Fun Run. The run went on for 45 minutes, we ran, we walked, we drank water, danced, and jogged. We ran with Wild Wes, Amazing Andrew, and Krazy Katie. The next day our legs were very sore. Our class won the mystery prize, water bottles!
We had the best week ever!

Tremendous Third Week
Hi Parents,
In class today, we held a mock trial. We each had a part to play in the trial. We had a judge, a court reporter, lawyers, witnesses, jury members, and a sheriff. In the end the jury found the defendant guilty of loosing a puppy.
Language has been about the four types of sentences.
This week in math, we started learning place value using the T-Shirt Factory. We were put into groups and we had to create a company name. On a poster, we put our company name and graphs showing how many boxes of shirts, rolls of shirts, and loose shirts we have in each size.
Mrs. Hoover is reading us a book called Out of My Mind for our read aloud after lunch. It's about a girl that is 11 and she has special needs. She cannot walk, talk, or do other things we can do.
This week in gym be played Survivor and Boom Ball. On Survivor we try to get players from the other team out by hitting them with a ball. In Art, we learned to draw a swan.
We would also like to tell you that Mrs. Hoover is awesome!! (and FUN!!)
That's how our tremendous third week has gone.
